Buying Guide: Key Considerations for Kidney-Shaped Inground Pool Covers
Shape compatibility matters most for kidney-shaped or irregular pools. When evaluating options, consider the following:
- Fit and customization: Look for products marketed as kidney, irregular, or freeform compatibility, or choose a custom cover with precise measuring instructions.
- Material and insulation: Thicker blankets (14 mil or more) offer better heat retention and durability, especially in variable climates.
- UV and weather resistance: For year-round use, choose LDPE-coated or UV-resistant materials to protect water from sun damage and reduce algae growth.
- Ease of installation and trimming: DIY-friendly options should include clear measuring guides and simple trimming instructions for non-traditional shapes.
- Evaporation control: Solar blankets and bubble covers help minimize water loss and reduce chemical use, contributing to long-term savings.
- Safety features: If choosing a safety cover, ensure the product is rated for the intended pool size and meets local safety standards.
